If you’ve landed here, you’re ready to tackle one area of your home as part of the 500 Item Purge.
This simple decluttering challenge is all about letting go of the things that no longer serve your family, one small decision at a time. Despite the name, it’s not really about reaching 500 items, it’s about building momentum and creating a home that’s easier to clean, organize, and enjoy. If you’re new to the challenge, be sure to read the 500 Item Purge Overview first, where I’ll explain the philosophy behind the purge, share the benefits of owning less, and give you access to my free Decluttering Guide to help you confidently decide what stays and what goes. Then come back here, and let’s tackle this room together.
Camper Purge: Less Stuff, More Adventure
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned from camping is that you don’t need nearly as much stuff as you think you do. Every cabinet, drawer, and storage compartment has limited space, which makes the camper the perfect place to be intentional about what you keep.
Some clutter is obvious, expired food, broken camping gear, and worn-out outdoor toys. Other items sneak in over time: duplicate cooking utensils, extra blankets, campground brochures you’ll never read again, and supplies you’ve packed “just in case” but have never actually used.
As I worked through our camper, I kept asking myself one simple question: “Have we actually used this while camping?” If the answer was no, it came out. Little by little, packing became easier, storage made more sense, and setting up camp felt less chaotic.
As you work through your own camper, don’t forget about the little things. Old bug spray, broken flashlights, extra plastic cups, worn card games, and random camping gadgets all count toward your 500.
The goal isn’t to fill every storage compartment. It’s to make every camping trip simpler, lighter, and easier to enjoy. ✌🏼
