But over the years, I’ve realized something: Most “stuck” spaces don’t have an organizing problem. They have a planning problem. Before you can organize a space, you have to understand how it’s meant to serve your family.

Instead of asking, “How do I organize this?” start asking:

• Why isn’t this space working?
• What does my family actually need from it?
• Does everything here support that purpose?
• Is every square foot being used intentionally?

Think about your current season of life. What does your family actually need this space to do?

Instead of organizing everything, remove anything that doesn’t support the vision for the space.

4. Draft the Layout

Before buying a single basket or moving furniture, decide how you’ll use the square footage. Give every area a purpose.

5. Design the Solution

Now choose the furniture, storage, and systems that support your plan, not the other way around.

6. Develop the Space

Bring your vision to life one step at a time. Progress always beats perfection.

7. Dial It In

No system is perfect on day one. Live in the space, notice what’s working, tweak what isn’t, and let it evolve with your family.
